Ogma
Ogma: The Strength of the Word and the Sword
The Champion of the Honeyed Tongue
At the banquet of the gods, brute strength is a common gift, but the ability to subdue armies without unsheathing a sword is a privilege reserved for Ogma. Brother of the Dagda himself, Ogma presents himself to the world with a baffling duality. He is a giant of imposing musculature, a warrior capable of uprooting trees and acting as the undisputed champion of his people in days of war. However, his true power lies not in his iron fists, but in the delicacy of his mouth.
Those who gaze upon him in his most sacred aspect see him as an old man crowned with a lion's skin, dragging behind him a crowd of happy men. These men are not chained by the neck or by the hands; they are linked to the god's tongue by extremely fine chains of gold and amber that connect directly to their ears. There is no pain in their captivity, but rather absolute ecstasy. With his eloquence, Ogma chains souls, bends the most stubborn wills, and heals minds wounded by the horror of combat.
The Birth of the Forest Script
The milestone that defines Ogma for eternity is not a battle won with blood, but the creation of Ogham, the sacred script. In a moment of deep meditation, understanding that the thoughts of the wise and the deeds of heroes should not be devoured by oblivion, Ogma observed the structure of the trees. He saw in their branches and leaves a system of signs and, emulating nature, carved the first incisions onto a birch tablet.
Each stroke of the Ogham is a branch; each vertical line, a trunk. This script was not designed for paper, but to be carved into boundary stones and the bark of trees along the paths. It was a language of power and mystery, used to transmit secret messages and to raise magical barriers that enemies dared not cross. Through Ogham, Ogma united the physical strength of the earth with the subtlety of the intellect, proving that a well-carved word can withstand the passage of centuries far better than any stone wall.
The Whisper on the Blade
During the great Battle of Mag Tuired, where the forces of light and darkness collided for dominion over the land, Ogma proved that his mastery of words extended to the weapons of his enemies as well. It was he who captured Orna, the magical sword of the king of the Fomorians. Upon being unsheathed, the sword, moved by the presence and power of the god of eloquence, began to speak on its own, recounting in detail all the deeds and slaughters it had performed in the past.
Ogma did not silence it; he listened to its stories and, in doing so, stripped the weapon of its will to kill, turning it into a trophy of justice. This is how this god acts: disarming violence through knowledge, translating the chaos of the world into comprehensible symbols, and reminding mortals that true strength is not that which destroys the body, but that which is capable of ruling the minds and hearts of men.
