The Dragon Child and the Unearther of the Occult

The Specter of the Depths and the Dark Serpents Valac (also known as Volac, Valax, or Valu) holds the title of Great President in the hierarchy of the Lemegeton, commanding thirty-eight legions. His traditional iconography is one of the most unsettling and revealing in the Goetia: he manifests as a child with angel wings, riding a two-headed dragon. His origin connects with the ancient myths of the "divine child" or hidden wisdom beneath an inoffensive facade, intertwined with the chthonic guardians of subterranean treasures in Indo-European folklore and the Serpents of the Abyss.

The Demonization of the Guardian of the Underground Throughout the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, Valac was classified as a lesser demon focused on greed, due to his ability to reveal hidden treasures and point out the whereabouts of serpents, delivering them untamed to the magician. The Church saw in the two-headed dragon the symbol of duplicated deceit, and in Valac's childlike appearance, a satanic mockery of Christ's purity. Nevertheless, for practitioners of telluric magic and necromancy, Valac remained the true cartographer of the Earth's subterranean veins and of the secrets buried in the depths.

The Cartography of the Unconscious: Esoteric Meaning

In the psychology of the Abyss and initiatory work, Valac is the seeker of treasures buried in the Shadow:

The Winged Child: Symbolizes the amoral innocence of the spirit, a will untainted by the prejudices of the mature ego or conventional morality.

The Two-Headed Dragon: Represents primordial telluric forces, the duality of time (past and future), and the untamed kundalini energy that sustains the sovereign individual.

The Seeker of Serpents: In esoteric language, the serpent is forbidden knowledge, hidden wisdom, and transmuted venom. Valac rules over the ability to tame the most dangerous energetic currents without suffering harm.

Manifestation and Sovereignty Valac's current is deceptively light on the surface, but charged with an immense telluric pressure at the bottom.

How he acts: He manifests when long-buried truths suddenly come to light. He guides the revelations of hidden talents, repressed memories, or the discovery of material and intellectual resources that seemed nonexistent.

Approach and Protection: Approaching Valac requires a mind devoid of childish greed. Anyone who seeks only material wealth or vain power without being prepared to ride the dragon is devoured by the beast's ambivalence (the two heads of the dragon fighting each other). Sovereignty is maintained by not being deceived by appearances (the childlike form) and by maintaining absolute dominion over telluric energy and unearthed secrets.
