Psychokinesis
Psychokinesis: The Direct Influence of the Mind on Matter
What It Is
Psychokinesis is the mental faculty that allows one to influence, move, or alter physical matter without using any known physical means. It is a direct manifestation of the will acting upon the energy and atoms of objects. This ability encompasses specific variants such as telekinesis (movement of objects), pyrokinesis (control and generation of fire), and micro-psychokinesis (influence over random systems or electronic components).
How It Manifests
The phenomenon presents itself in two fundamental ways: conscious and unconscious. In conscious manifestation, the operator concentrates their attention on an object and succeeds in moving, bending, suspending it in the air, or altering its temperature. In unconscious manifestation, the phenomenon occurs as a discharge of accumulated emotional or psychological tension. In the latter case, the subject does not control the effects, which generates disordered movements of objects, noises, and malfunctions in electrical appliances around them.
History and Development
The formal study of psychokinesis began in 1934 in the parapsychology laboratory at Duke University, under the direction of J. B. Rhine. Rhine systematized the analysis of the phenomenon through statistical tests with dice rolls, coining the term "psychokinesis." In Eastern mystical traditions, such as Qigong, this ability is the result of the mastery and external projection of Qi or vital energy, accumulated in the practitioner's body and directed through focused intention.
Recorded Cases
* **Nina Kulagina (Soviet Union, 1960s):** A Russian citizen who demonstrated psychokinetic abilities under the strict control of Soviet scientists. Kulagina managed to separate the white and yolk of an egg submerged in water, move glass objects across a table, and alter the heart rate of a frog in a monitored laboratory environment. * **Uri Geller (1970s):** Famous for bending metal spoons and stopping or accelerating mechanical clocks through mental concentration. His abilities were evaluated at the Stanford Research Institute by physicists Russell Targ and Harold Puthoff, who recorded real physical alterations in the materials used. * **Ted Serios (1960s):** An American operator who projected mental images directly onto unexposed Polaroid photographic film, a process termed "thoughtography." Psychiatrist Jule Eisenbud documented and validated these manifestations under controlled laboratory conditions.
Explanation of the Phenomenon
For esoteric and spiritual schools, the mind is not confined within the limits of the physical brain. Consciousness is a fundamental force of the universe that interconnects everything in existence. The psychokinetic operator aligns their own energy field with the atomic structure of the object. As both fields unify, the mental command translates into movement or physical alteration of matter.
Academic physics rejects psychokinesis because it violates the fundamental laws of thermodynamics and the inverse-square law. However, quantum physics offers models based on quantum entanglement, where the observer's consciousness directly affects the state of subatomic particles. Conventional psychology explains most cases through self-deception, suggestion, confirmation bias, or the use of professional illusionism techniques.
Linked Phenomena
Psychokinesis is directly related to poltergeist activity, which is an unconscious psychokinetic discharge generated by a human agent, usually a teenager under stress. It is also associated with healing by laying on of hands, levitation, pyrokinesis, and physical mediumship. ---
