Azrael: The Scribe of the Final Sigh

The Gatherer of the Primordial Clay

Long before becoming the shadow that waits at the end of every path, this being was the only one who dared to descend into the abysses of matter. When the celestial palace required the dust of the four corners of the world to mold the first man, the Earth, sensing its tragic destiny of decay and pain, refused to surrender its substance. Other messengers drew back before the weeping of the ground, but he did not hesitate. He descended with the determination of pure gravity, plunged his hands into the red clay, and extracted the raw material of humanity. For having demonstrated that mercy should not interfere with the cosmic design, he was entrusted with the reverse task: to receive each portion of that clay when the divine breath decided to abandon it. Thus, the gatherer of the origin was transformed into the custodian of the return.

The Book of the Fallen Leaves

His presence is an immeasurable architecture that defies human geometry. He unfolds into thousands of wings, and each of his feathers is studded with eyes that never blink; each eye corresponds to a living being in creation. His gaze watches over the heartbeat of everything that breathes, and he possesses as many tongues as there are souls walking upon the earth, pronouncing the names of the living in a continuous whisper. Before him stands a tree of infinite dimensions, whose leaves bear the written names of all humanity. When a mortal's time runs out, their leaf withers and falls from the cosmic branches. The shedding of that leaf is the imperative signal: the name is erased from the great registry of existence with a stroke of ink that resembles liquid night, and the messenger departs immediately to claim what belongs to him.

The Caress and the Rending

His arrival is not identical for all men, for he acts as a mirror of the soul he visits. For those who have walked the path of righteousness, he presents himself with the gentleness of a night breeze, showing an indescribable and serene beauty. He offers an apple from the tree of life or allows the soul to smell a celestial perfume, making the shedding of the flesh as natural and pain-free as pulling a hair from a bowl of clean milk. But for those who sowed discord and tyranny, his face is a storm of terror, a whirlwind of stern faces and iron claws that rip away the life force like one dragging a thorny branch through wet wool. He does not judge; he simply executes the transition with the mathematical precision of the end of times.
